The Real Struggles MBA Students Face While Completing Their Projects



When I first started my MBA project, I thought it would be easy. Pick a topic, do some research, write it up and submit. Easy. I imagined the project could be completed in a couple of weeks, and then a few late nights prior to the date. The reality hit me fast. The project is not just an outline. It tests your organization, capacity to endure and cope with unexpected issues. In my class, almost everyone had to work in some way.



Many students think they can consider the project just like regular assignments or case studies. Weeks later they realize that deadlines are not as close as they'd hoped, data is incomplete, chapters don't link and motivation drops. The MBA task can become overwhelming If you don't handle it appropriately.



Here I will share what challenges students have to face in dealing with these. There's no formula for success, however, gaining knowledge from experience helps a lot.



Choosing a Topic Is Harder Than It Looks



Finding a topic can appear easy, but the truth is that it's not. I made the mistake of selecting a topic which looked impressive but was impossible to achieve. There were weeks of time as I tried to collect data from companies which never contacted me. Some of my colleagues chose trendy subjects without even considering the availability of data. The result is the same. You spend weeks feeling disappointed.



A practical subject is better than an impressive one. It should correspond to your resources as well as your interests. For instance, for instance, instead of "The Future of Marketing in India" opt for "Social Media Marketing Strategies in Local Retail Stores." It is focused, data is simpler to gather and the goals are clearly defined.



Objectives Are More Important Than You Think



Objectives will guide your project throughout. Some students will make the error of writing vague objectives, such as "To study the impact of leadership on productivity." This says nothing. I had to rewrite mine numerous times in order to make them precise and precise.

The analysis is yet another problem. You can have perfect charts and tables, but if you can't explain the meaning behind them, they're useless. I've seen classmates copy graphs without understanding. It is not a matter of fact that numbers prove anything unless you describe them.



A tip is to pilot your survey by talking to a few persons first. It helps find confusing questions while avoiding wasting time. Always connect your analysis to the goals. For example if your project is focused on customer satisfaction, ensure that your survey has quantifiable data on the quality of service provided, product reliability and response time.



Time Management Is Tough



Everyone agrees that time management is important, but in MBA it's harder than it sounds. Between lectures, group projects and assignments, there is not enough time. I sat on chapters for a while thinking that I could complete in a couple of days. However, after a few weeks I was worried.



Breaking the project down into smaller steps can help. The project can be divided into literature reviews research, methodology, data acquisition and analysis, as well as writing chapters each separately. Track small progress every week. An even a single chapter or section done each week feels motivating.



Writing Is Harder Than You Think



Even with data-ready writing can be a struggle. I struggled to explain results in simple language. Certain sections seemed repetitive. I revised the analysis chapter numerous times.

Formatting and References Matter



I was hesitant to format at first. Fonts, spacing, certificates. I believed that I could rectify them later. Big mistake. It almost delayed submission.



References are equally vital. One missing citation can raise questions. Use software to manage references and manage them while writing chapters, instead of waiting for the conclusion. Proper formatting makes your paper easy to understand and makes it appear more professional.



Stress Is Real



Stress is inevitable. Deadlines, corrections or incomplete information can overwhelm. There were nights when I stared at the screen and felt like I'd never get it done.



Short breaks help. Friends talking, going on a walk, listening to music. Be grateful for small achievements. In the process of finishing a literature study or data collection are achievements. They help keep the motivation going.



Ethical Confusion



Many students worry about what kind assistance is allowed. It is possible to seek out guidance but you aren't able to get someone else to help you write your own project. Ethics-based guidance provides feedback on structure, methodology and clarity. The original work is yours to keep.
