I have learned to ask myself what exactly I want to assess and how will be able to tell if the project is successful. These kinds of questions make a major difference in the quality of my work.

Collecting and Analysing Data Is Painful

It is in data collection that the majority of students are struggling. I contacted small businesses asking questions. Some ignored me completely, while others promised answers that never came. Surveys online are helpful, but the responses are typically not complete.

The analysis is yet another problem. You can make perfect charts and tables but if there is no way to explain the meaning behind them, they're not useful. I witnessed my classmates copy graphs with no explanation. It is not a matter of fact that numbers prove anything unless you provide them with explanations.

It is a good idea to test your survey by talking to a few people prior to completing it. This helps you figure out confusing questions and avoids wasting time. Always tie your analysis to the goals. Keep language simple and readable. Invite your friends to read sections. Sometimes, being too involved in your own project makes it difficult to find mistakes. Fresh eyes help a lot.

Supervisors Can Be Helpful But Also Frustrating

As a manager, it can be tricky. Some supervisors are clear and others are incoherent or difficult to fulfill. I waited two weeks for the response but it took a while to complete my progress.

The most important thing is proactive. Plan specific questions, respond politely, and then record feedback. Supervisors help but you have to take responsibility for your own initiative.

Formatting and References Matter

I initially didn't care about formatting. Fonts, spacing, certificates. I thought I could repair them later. Big mistake. It could have delayed the submission.

References are equally important. One missing citation can raise questions. Utilize software to manage references and manage them while writing chapters, rather than waiting until the end. Properly formatted documents make your work much easier for readers and more professional.

Stress Is Real

Stress is unavoidable. Deadlines for corrections, deadlines and missing information can overwhelm. Many nights, I stared at the computer screen, feeling as if I could never finish.

Short breaks help. Socializing with friends, going for a stroll, listening to music. Make small accomplishments a priority. The completion of a literature review, or the data collection are important milestones. They maintain motivation.

Ethical Confusion

The difference is in how you tackle these problems. Break up tasks into parts with a focus on just one step in a row, and adhere to the right expectations.

Projects can teach you skills beyond the academic. Discipline in research, time management written clarity, problem solving are lessons that remain useful in professional life. The research project can be stressful however, it's also practical.
